The transformation of our character is more REVOLUTION than reformation.  It is forged from battles fought far more than beliefs held.  It emerges out of crisis, not out of the classroom.  It doesn't just come to you, you must RUN to IT. It is like the GAUNTLET waiting to be conquered. Character is like a HERO asleep within you waiting to be AWAKENED.  It's power sweepd through you like waves of transformation.

HOME INVASION

Hey Students... 


This wednesday night is HOME INVASION!!!!  We will be invading the Roland home beginning at 6:30pm to 8:30pm.  Please make sure you are dropped off at the Rolands, and that  your ride is there right at 8:30pm.  If the weather is good, bring your swim suit, because they have a pool!  There will be plenty of snack food and drink, as well as games like bocci ball, crocket, lawn bowling and more! A FRESH 24

I love the way Steven Furticks mind works.  He is inspired by the Holy Spirit through many different ways, and this time through an NBA basketball game.  So he is watching this NBA game while studying for a sermon  (ok who does that?) anyway, there was a time where the basketball was shot at the last second before the shot clock expired, and the offensive team got the rebound, and the announcer says... "they have a fresh 24"  Meaning that they get a new 24 sec on the shot clock before they have to take a shot.  How cool that we can look at this piece of scripture and say that Gods gives us a FRESH 24 hours each and every day!  Each day we wake up, and confess our sins to him, and His Grace and Mercy washes over us and cleanses us and gives us a FRESH 24!   WOW!! We serve an AWESOME God and He is worthy to be praised!!

STUFF

Don't we have a bunch of STUFF?  I mean, stuff that sits in our drawers that we haven't warn in years.  Stuff in the "junk drawer" that has been taking up space for years.  Stuff in the storage space that we have forgotten was even there until we had to store something else away,  and again see all the STUFF that we have.  The mini-storage industry has been in a boom over the past 15 years in America, because we just can't get rid of enough stuff fast enough to keep up with all the new stuff we keep aquiring.   
I wonder what life would be like if each and everyday we woke up and saw the world through the eyes of Jesus.  If we saw all things and all people and all circumstances.  If we were able to see the family of 5 in India who wake up everyday from sleeping on dirt floors, wondering how they would scrounge enough money to feed themselves.  If we were able to see the orphan child in Africa with HIV who lost his parents to aids wandering the streets looking for someone, anyone to give him a morsel of food to eat.  If we were able to see the mother who helplessly watches her child die in her arms from starvation.
I wonder then, would we have all this stuff?  Would it matter?  
Maybe it's time to get rid of some stuff and donate the money to save a child of God from starvation, HIV Aids.  Maybe sponsor a child so that they can have clean clothes, food to eat, a school to attend, and be able to come to know Jesus through it all.

SUMMER

Summer is here and it's time for ice cream cones, and burgers on the grill, and slushies.  Over the summer, you will spend the majority of your time with your friends.  What a great opportunity to invite them to Youth Group!  Over the summer, we are going to be outside the church building "being" the church!  We'll be at the parks, and feeding the hungry, and volunteering at the homeless shelter and playing BIG games etc...  This makes it an easy invite for your friends.  Make this summer awesome by inviting your friends to Youth Group, and playing a part in students coming to know JESUS!

WEDNESDAY NIGHT YOUTH GROUP

Hey ONE80 students...
We are kicking off the summer Youth Group schedule this Wednesday night at the NARGANS.  We will begin at 6:30 and end at 8:30.  Come hungry as we will cook hot dogs over an open fire, and then have Smores for desert!!  We will have a couple of yard games, and plenty of space to just hang out by the fire.  I'll do a short devo for the night as well.  We should have a final summer schedule posted by the end of this week.

HARVEST

WOW!  Revolution 2010 was beyond words!  The Harvest was a sweet aroma to the nostrils of Christ.  77 students drew a line in the sand and said I am ready to make a difference for my generation!  I am ready to be a part of this REVOLUTION!  I will NOT sit on the sidelines any more.  I am IN the game!

This Is A Test

GODS BLESSINGS

I am so excited about where God is leading us that I can barely contain myself. About a year ago, the vision of the youth trading locations in the church with the adults was placed on a young mans heart. He shared this vision with Mark and myself, and in turn we shared it with the church leadership. There was much debate and discussion, and there was some resistance. Unltimately, the move was approved, and here we are today. I truely believe with everything in me that this was Edinbrooks first step of faith in the journey that God has set us on. Our Sr. Pastor, Ivan Veldhuizen is the annointed leader of Edinbrook Church, chosen by God to lead us. In the book of Joshua, God tells Joshua that wherever he plants his foot, God will go with him. He tells Joshua to be strong and courageous THREE times, and know that God will come through on his promise. I believe that Ivan is leading us just like Joshua lead Israel, and that Ivan (and the leadership) have taken that first step of action by allowing the move, and now, God is pouring out his blessings on us. Just as Joshua first had to step into the land of milk and honey before God would bless him, Edinbrooks leadership has taken that first step, and we are starting to see His Blessings.
This blessing is coming in the form of First Time Decisions for Jesus! In the 7 years that I have been doing youth ministry, I have not seen fruit like this. Outside of the Revolution outreach event, I think I could count on one hand the number of students who have made first time decisions for Jesus. This year alone, in the 7 months of ministry so far we have seen 35 students come to Christ! THAT BLOWS MY MIND! Only GOD can do stuff like that! We are seeing this happen not only in the youth ministry, but in Edinbrook as a whole. God is pouring out his blessings on Edinbrook Church in the form of new creations for Christ. I also believe with all of me that God is going to also bless us with mind blowing resources, both finacial and human resources. God is unleashing the giftedness in our current attenders, and is bringing new gifted attenders to further Glorify Him. God is unleashing the finances of our current attenders, and I beleive is bringing new attenders who will astound us with their generosity. All for HIS GLORY!
I am so blessed to be used by God, here at Edinbrook Church, and know that even my small role has an impact for His Kingdom!

HE IS RISEN


In Glory, Jesus raised from the dead.
There are many who have tried to explain away this truth. Some say the the Apostles came and stole the body and hid it. Some others say that Jesus was only in a deep sleep, and he escaped into obscurity. When you take a serious look at these options, you see just how ridiculous these claims are. First, lets take a look at the Apostles stealing the body. OK, so let's say that somehow they are able to get past the war seasoned warriors of the Roman army who are guarding the tomb. This legion of soldiers would never fall asleep, or let their guard down, because if they did, they would be executed. So now why would the Apostles continue on with the lie that Jesus rose from the dead? Why would they spread the good news of Jesus Christ and suffer horrific deaths for a lie?
Ok, so let's look at the notion that Jesus was only in a deep sleep. So after being beaten up to an inch from death by the cat-of-nine tails... hanging on a cross with 8 inch spikes driven through his hands and feet, Jesus woke up and tore the 100+ pounds of ointment and cloth off of him, then rolled a 4000lb stone uphill to escape the tomb. Then he tip-toed around the legion of Roman soldiers undetected to escape. I've heard some whopper stories, that that one takes the prize!
When you look objectively at this, there is only one conclusion that you can come to.

JESUS WAS RAISED FROM THE GRAVE!
HE DEFEATED DEATH!
JESUS IS ALIVE!

Celebrated as KING

Jesus came to save me and you. He came to save the sinners of his day too. Only they didn't get it. So many times in that last year of his ministry, the Pharasies made attempts on his life. Cephus, "The Godfather" put a hit out on Jesus. So how does that work? The most respected and religious people of their time, and they found a way to justify killing Jesus. WOW. They failed in all their attempts leading up to his arrival in Jerusalem. They were really freaked out when Jesus came in riding on a donkey as the King. You see, the people (including Judas) wanted a King who would rule over them, and throw off the oppression of the Roman empire. When they saw that this just wasn't going to happen, all heck broke loose. One week after entering the city as a Royal King, he was hanging on a cross!

How will you look at Jesus this Easter? Do you see him as a good guy who was a good teacher? Do you see him as a guy who was a prophet and spoke to God? Do you see him as a martyr who suffered and died, but the story ends there? Or will you see JESUS for what he IS.... The Way, The Truth and The Life! He is the only way to Heaven. He is who He says He is! GOD!

JESUS PAID IT ONCE... FOR ALL

Hebrews 11:14
For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made Holy.

I've read this verse at least a hundred times, but for some reason, TODAY, it hit me the significance of this sacrifice. That Jesus (God) left Heaven (HELLO) and came to Earth to be sacrificed like a lamb, or an ox, or ram. Hard to fathom! Maybe we aren't meant to fully understand it. In the old testament, every time you had to bring a sacrifice, you were reminded of the sin. With the one-time sacrifice of Jesus, He not only forgives us, but them wipes the slate clean, and we are without blemish!

AWESOME!

Pure Heart

David was a man who is known most for his defeat of Goliath the giant. How in the world could a young teenager defeat an experienced warrior like Goliath? David was close to God, and God was with David in everything that he did. When he was tending his flock, and a lion would snatch one of his sheep, David would run after the lion, rescue the sheep from its certain death, and then would kill the lion. He did the same with a bear! It's impossible right? Wrong! When your heart is pure, and God is with you, anything is possible. One day, David was sent by his father to go and see how his brothers were doing on the battle field, and he obediently delivered bread and cheese for them to eat. While he was there, this Philistine was mocking God and mocking Israel. David became angry because no one would go fight this guy. They all were hiding out in fear. David, after some time, finally convinced King Saul that he could defeat this giant. Saul had David wear armor made for a fully grown adult man, but after a few practice swings, David told Saul that God equiped him with a sling, not a sword. And that it didn't matter what the weapon was that he went into battle with. It was that God would go into battle with David, and God would defeat the giant, just as he defeated the bear and the lion. David went on to be the greatest King in Israels history, because his heart was pure, and his motives were just.
May we have a desire to have a pure heart and seek whatever it is that God has for us. May we be Lion chasers, and giant killers! May we be World Changers for Christ Jesus!

A Generation Rising

I believe that there is a generation rising up for Jesus Christ. I believe that this generation has the potential to be the most influential generation is history. This generation is thirsting for something to believe in, something to fight for, to stand for! As we see students surrender there lives to Jesus, we come closer and closer to that reality. This generation must have a significant impact on the next generation rising for Jesus, or they will be devoured by the world, and hope will be in short supply. I believe that the Generation Rising will produce the next great evangelist. I believe that the Generation Rising will have a political leader to the likes we have never encountered, and will be a person, who brings character and Jesus back into "popularity." I believe that the Generation Rising will produce the next great breakthrough, that will change history as we know it!

In order to see this movement come, we must have AUDACIOUS FAITH like Joshua! Let God develop and mature those audacious dreams that he has placed in you, and then allow Him to use you to realize them!

Forgive But Don't Forget

Tonight we are going to take a long look at what Jesus says about forgiveness. What will my life look like if I am a peacemaker, and can forgive those who have done me wrong? And what will my life look like if I will not forgive. Two very different lives in two very different places! Tonight we are going to lay ourselves out there and take a HUGE step to healing and take our sin to the foot of the cross and forgive those who we need to forgive.

ARE YOU AND I LIVING FOR THE SOULS OF MEN?

Have you and I lived to win souls at this noble rate? Are we possessed with the same all-absorbing desire? If not, why not? Jesus died for sinners, cannot we live for them? Where is our tenderness? Where is our love to Christ, if we seek not his honor in the salvation of men? O that the Lord would saturate us through and through with an undying zeal for the souls of men.

I love Charles Spurgeon! He is so eloquent with his words, and so deep with his thoughts. I know it is sometimes hard to understand the old english writing style, but yet the message seems to leap off the page at you. Jesus died for the sins of man. Are you and I living for the souls of men? If not, why not? That is the million dollar question. Are you embarassed of Jesus? Do you raise your hands in youth group, and live like you don't even know him at school? Do I leave Jesus behind when I go to work? I want to be saturated with a passion to live like there is no tomorrow. To speak the truth of Jesus to everyone I know and meet. Can we be completely possessed with the desire to see this generation meet Jesus face to face? There are hundreds of millions of students all around us that are going to hell unless someone shares the Truth of Jesus with them. Will it be you? Why not?

Is Jesus attractive to you?

Phillippians 1:10,11

Live a life that is circumspect and exemplary, a life Jesus would be proud of: bountiful in fruits from the soul, making Jesus Christ attractive to all...

We, as Christ followers, are to make Jesus attractive to everyone. Is Jesus attractive to you? If he is then I hope that you have surrendered all to Him, and have Jesus in everything you say and do. If Jesus is not attractive to you, have you spent any time checking the facts about Jesus? Have you weighed all the evidence? All time and space is measured based on the life and death of this one man. His life warrants a closer look. I believe that if you give it an honest evaluation, and compare Jesus to any other professed God or person, you will see that Jesus is who He said He was. Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me." This statement turns allot of people off because they think that in the post modern world of "Religious Tolerance" that this point of view is too narrow. Jesus has everything that we need to find this path. We just need to ask, and He will be there!

Is Jesus attractive to you? Maybe it's time to take a closer look, and allow His Grace and Mercy to wash over you, and make you new!

ONE80 Missions 2011

Hey students....
I wanted to encourage you to pray about going on this years Jr High missions trip to Sault Ste Marie, MI. We will be partnering with YouthWorks again this year. We will be leaving on June 19th and returning June 25th. It's a great trip where we will serve those who are less fortunate than us. My favorite thing last year was the Kids Club. I can't wait to see all those familiar faces, and get those big hugs from the kids. All the other ministries were great too! Pick-up an application and information packet at the SWAP Shop upstairs in the Youth area.
Missions fits right into our calling as Christ followers to go out and tell everyone about the good news of Jesus, making disciples in His name. be a part of something that will leave you with memories that will last you a lifetime!

Father and Son

Every few months I take one of my three boys out for a guys night. One on one, just me and one of them. last night Luke and I took off for the Northland Inn and had a great time hanging out, eating a good meal, and talking, and catching a late movie. This morning we shared a cup of coffee and then spoiled ourselves with room service for breakfast. I think it's important for each of my boys to know that their Dad loves them beyond measure, and is willing to go to the ends of the earth for them. They can't know this from a distance. You can only achieve this by spending time with them. Listening to what is on their mind and in their heart. Sometimes, we don't even speak. We just sit next to each other and enjoy the other person just being there.

I think, that God, our Father wants to do the same thing with us. He wants to hang out and talk a bit. Maybe just hang out and not even say anything, but just enjoy each others company. You can't expect to have a relationship, unless you spend time with Him, and tell Him what's on you mind and in your heart. He already knows, but loves to hear us speak to Him.

As a father, I want my sons to know that I am there Always! God wants you to know that too!

If you have been living your life as if Jesus doesn't exist, then maybe it's time to turn and trust your life to Jesus! Without Him, your life is bound by the world, and filled with disappointment. With Jesus, you can live a life where you can truly be ALIVE!

Three in ONE

Hey students,

I finished up today with Paul's second letter to the Corinthians, and was struck by his last words to them. "The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God, the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit be with you. I just meditated on that all day and feel so blessed. Through the AMAZING grace of Jesus, the one who died for me on that cross. Because of the the EXTRAVAGANT love of God, who gave so generously of his Son for me. The INTIMATE friendship, the Holy Spirit that Jesus promised.

What an AWESOME blessing to receive......

Welcome ALL ONE80 students.

Hey ONE80 students....


Welcome to the new and improved SWAP website, and blog spot.  God has created all this awesome technology, and we are going to use it for His Glory! 


I was reading in 2nd Corinthians today, and in chapter 10, Paul was talking about how living in "the world" is such a dog-eat-dog life, and that the world doesn't fight fair.  But as Christians, we don't live, or fight that way!  We are to live in the power of the Holy Spirit and use the gifts that He has given us to be LIGHT in a very dark place.'


As a follower of JESUS, be the Light that your friends can see, and trust, and rely on.  Even when it isn't the popular thing to do.
